This is not a Sunday afternoon ride to the cafe. And it is not meant to be. This is a physically and mentally challenging adventure - and can be life changing. We experienced the phantastic nature and scenary of southern Argentina and Chile and learned a lot about the way people live in this part of the world. We enjoyed impressive landscapes with snow-covered mountains, deep blue lakes and the endless width of desert-like areas in the South as well as small and taller animals, on and offside the roads.
They do everything so you can concentrate on riding the bike and enjoying the views. They took care of providing accommodation, food, drinks, making sure the bikes are in proper shape and border-crossing paper works but most importantly they were always there with advice and expertise when things did not go as expected. Always knowing things are in save hands gives you great peace of mind during the tour.
Everything was very well organized by the Horizonte Tours team, and finally, we did get the Sunday afternoon coffee after all…
South Patagonia, January 2020
I attended the South Patagonia Tour from Bariloche to Ushuaia in Jan 2020.This was was my most exciting motorbike event ever. The landscape was fantastic and varied from rainforest to desert-like pampa with glaciers in between. The bikes were in excellent condition, and the tour guides did an excellent job in guiding, supporting and explaining. Overnight-stays took place in all different kinds of accomodation, luxury hotels and traditional haciendas as well, very nice! Sometimes it needs an exceptional situation to figure out quality and professionalism of a tour operator. I had a self-caused problem, which was solved by the team in a very professional and friendly manner. Thanks again for that!!
South Patagonia January 2020
The journey was awesome, we enjoy it a lot. The scenery
was fantastic, accommodation and food very good and the bikes worked fine. From
the beginning to the last day we enjoy every moment, Patagonia is a
special place, and people are very friendly and helpful . A
special thanks for Horizonte team: Frank, Jeff and Martin. They are very
professional, very good guides very good comrades. I consider seriously to do it
In September 2016 I went on the Pyrenees
trip with Horizonte. Some years earlier I had been on two South American trips.
The Pyrenees is known for its twisty roads and stunning scenery. As with the
South American adventures the Horizonte Pyrenees trip was well organised, well
thought out and visited as many places of interest as could be fitted-in. From
my previous experience it goes without saying that the hotels were first class
and the food excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending both Horizonte and
the Pyrenees trip.
My son two friends and I toured Salta in April of 2016. We had a great time and only wished we could have stayed longer. Matias our tour guide, Frank on the sag wagon, the bikes, accommodations, route were excellent, and the scenery unique and worth every penny. We always felt safe. Highly recommend to anybody who would like to enjoy motorcycle riding, beautiful roads, and great food.
We had a great 3 day ride with Horizonte Tours. Salta, Cafayete, Cachi and back. Amazing scenery and pictures for a lifetime. Our guide, Mathias, was a local Argentinian and provided great instruction and information along the way. His always pleasant and attentive attitude really made the trip easy for us and allowed us to focus on the ride and the adventure. Frank drove the chase truck and went out of his way to help us capture some amazing pictures and video to take home. Overall, the trip went very smoothly thanks to the preparation and organization provided by the Horizonte team. Hotels we more than adequate, pace was good, bikes were in perfect shape and meals were good too. We will be definitely considering Horizonte for our future riding adventures.
Salta – Calchaquí Valleys
The tour of the Pyrenees with Mattias was a great ride. Each day had different roads, and scenery so the riding was really varied. I particularly enjoyed the small backroads that only an experienced local guide would know about but all the roads were excellent. I feel as though I really know the Pyrenees in depth having ridden them in both directions, always on new, but consistently entertaining, roads.
The other elements of the tour were also really good; the bikes were faultless, the hotels were of a high standard – the paradores were particularly interesting – and the food was very high quality.
On my tour all of the riders had ridden with Mattias before and all had come back for more which says a lot.
Pyrenées - from coast to coast
I already miss Argentina. So many memories. The rough mountain road leading to Andalaga. The brilliant colors of the Puna, the beautiful Lerma Valley, and the deep canyons leading into Salta. Thosands of miles of gravel roads defining the phrase “the road less traveled”. Twisty curves leading through narrow canyon walls and the harsh environmental beauty of Salinas Grande. Who could forget Argentina’s beautiful vicuña gracefully ambling from the roads of Ruta 9 and 51. The wildness Ruta 40 still has to offer before being tamed by the Argentina governent. There is also the cultural history Argentina has maintained. And, of course, the kindness of the Argentina people.
Adventure Northwest Argentina
At the start there was a nice welcome at the 1e day in Salta with a good briefing of the tour. Our guide Matias, a local from Salta, is kind and friendly and he told us a lot about the country with its culture now and the history. The roads were of nice to very bad( a kind of off-road touring)with impressive surroundings and nature. The northern part was very dry and , the mountains were very impressive. Also we visit the Paris-Dakar-rally, which was in our tour. The southern part of the tour was along the lakes and through Chile in the national parks and of course the visiting of the Glacier Perito Moreno. This was for me the most impressive part of the tour. Every day there were some stops for visiting local important buildings, historic scenery or imposing nature. I enjoyed every day of it. The hotels were very OK and well organized by the company. And after 4 weeks, 7000 km with a nice and good bike(BMW1200GS) of the company there was the end of the world – Ushuaia.
I can recommend to all for making a tour with this company.
I found Horizonte Tours on the Internet, and with no other references I booked my tour on short notice with Mathias. It could not be better. After more than 30 years driving motorcycle, I learned more on handling my bike these two weeks than ever done before. Our guide Matias, and his companian Frank was a excellent team, and nice accommodations together with all the good food, wine and beer, made our days perfect. A very wet and stormy day from Salta, crossing a big flood on the river down to Iruya, was no problem with the support from Matias and Frank. Great effort from these guys made also this day memorable! But not only Horizonte team was excelent, friendship among the participants was great.
I am really looking forward to join another tour with Horizonte…
A thousand thanks for a truly awesome trip. From Bariloche to Ushuaia, our fabulous guide Matias and unflappable support vehicle driver Frank added so much to our adventure. Leading our group through challenging gravel and must-be-experienced-to-be-believed windy sections, Matias was a great guide. With Frank providing support and repairs as well as lunches along the way and wine recommendations at dinner, we couldn’t have asked for better. Accommodations and meals were better than we expected, the range of landscapes and scenery was amazing to ride through, and our stops along the way added great interest. From tough gravel to wonderful twisties, from jaw-dropping glaciers to off-bike activities, this was a great trip. We’d do it again in a heartbeat. Southern Patagonia Tour, January 2013
KATHERINE & TONY
I just wanted to thank you guys again for the amazing time. I took part in the November Salta tour for two weeks. I was lucky enough to have both Matias and Frank as my tour guides. Everyday was more challenging than the last and I was constantly impressed with the knowledge and skill of my tour guides. We covered every terrain imaginable over the two weeks. The food and accommodations were stellar. Hope to do another tour with you guys next year.

Adventure Northwest Argentina Tour, November 2012
Just a few comments on the trip I made with Horizonte on their Desert/Wine/Mountain tour in January this year. It was great. It was my first time to South America. Argentina was spectacular to look at and there is something unique about looking at the world go by from the seat of a motorbike! I was riding one of Horizonte’s F650GS bikes. It was very comfortable and I felt it had a good weight/power ratio for someone like me (95kgs and 180+cm) who has not done that much motorbike touring and nothing on dirt before this trip. The other people in my group were a pleasure to travel with and the guys at Horizonte had the logistics for the trip well planned out. I’m aiming to get back there before too long so Mathias can show me Machu Picchu and the motorbikes he keeps in his living room. Northern Patagonia, January 2012
My two sons and I joined Horizonte for the Dakar Spectator Tour. Wow! Not only did we have great riding on paved and dirt roads the first day but super lunches in amazing hidden villages amidst spectacular scenery. Add to it was the excitement and extra pressure to keep up with the Dakar Rally. It turned from tour to adventure. The overnight stays were gems with terrific high end dinners. Mathais has spent years discovering these places and mapping a full day of riding between them. You cannot follow his route and have the same extraordinary experiences. This was our first street/road ride anywhere. Horizonte provided safe but challenging trip. The guide kept you out of trouble but set a thrilling pace. The bikes were in top condition and well suited to the route’s variety. Thanks Mathis. Dakar Tour January 2011

Mathias, At this point I would once again like to thank you for a very wonderful, well run, well organized trip. I had an absolute blast and wish I was still there. To say the least, you outdid yourself. Of all the vacations I’ve taken around the world, this was by far the best I have ever taken with lots of beauty and adventure. The hotels were good, the equipment in excellent condition and well taken care of, we had a support vehicle with all of the necessary parts and fuel, beautiful national parks, and of course, meeting new friends. But the ride was beyond belief. Not having ridden on gravel roads before I was very concerned the second day. However, listening to some of the other riders as well as yourself, I learned to not only drive on gravel but really had a lot of fun doing so. I’ll always remember the one day during our last week when we went tearing across the desert on a gravel road traveling at 80 m.p.h. A truly fun and memorable experience. This really was a trip of a lifetime. Once again, I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to ride with Horizonte Tours. I was truly impressed by the way you put this wonderful trip together. It was truly a wonderful vacation for me. Ruta 40, 25 days from Salta to Ushuaia, January 2011
I would recommend this Tour for anyone with an interest in the Dakar Rally and the spectacular countries it travels through. Our tour travelled several tracks used by the Dakar competitors and we were able to be up close at several stages enabling me to talk with a few Dakar bike competitors and opportunities for fantastic photo shots. The local knowledge of our guide permitted us to be flexible enough to alter our itinerary as required to follow such an unpredictable event such as the Dakar Given the standard of accommodation and meals with first class equipment (BMW 650&800) our guides knowledge of the countries and their support this tour does not only represent excellent value for money but for me an experience of a lifetime. Thank you Mathias & Matias. Dakar Tour January 2011
I would be very happy to recommend Mathias’s tour and happy to go with him again. It was well organized and having local knowledge he took us to places that not many people see. They were very concerned about safety and rode at sensible speeds, they kept the bikes in top running condition considering the circumstances and lack of support from the local Honda supplier. The meals and accommodation were excellent and Mathias was a great host. He knew the best places to eat and knew his wines we had some really memorable meals at night. Overall the tour was a fantastic adventure. Ruta 40, 25 days from Ushuaia to Salta, February 2010
Thank you Horizonte Tours for a truly remarkable and memorable experience! The Desert/Water/Wine tour was perhaps the most fun I have ever had. There is no better way to see Argentina – an amazingly beautiful country with many diverse landscapes. Mathias & Matias are very knowledgeable about the people and history of Argentina and their cultural lessons dispersed throughout the long ride really made the experience more genuine and interesting. Horizonte’s experience running tours through this country is apparent from their intimate knowlege of the local roads, hotels, restaurants, and people. I have done moto tours in South America with another larger, more expensive company and my experience with Horizonte easily stands out as the best. What separates them most is their extensive knowledge of the local culture and countryside. With Horizonte, I always felt assured we were on the proper route and the bikes were properly maintained/inspected each day for safety. I hope to return someday to do another tour with Horizonte – only next time I will do an entire month instead of just ten days. Desert, Water, Wine – from Bariloche to Salta, March 2010
This trip was clearly the best organised of any our group has done over the years, so many thanks again. Having taken annual motorbike tours on various continents with various companies and under varying circumstances for years, we have experience of the logistical difficulties. Not only were your organisational logistics impeccable, but your selection of restaurants and hotels was superb as well. It was also very clear that you know your terrain, since when last second on-the-road adjustments were required due to changing weather conditions or other surprises, you were very quickly able to put in place perfectly acceptable alternative arrangements. Discipline with flexibility is to be respected. Desert, Water, Wine Tour, October 2009
Wow, what a great time and what a fun and entertaining guide (considering Mat is German and all). This past trip to Patagonia has been my second guided tour with Mathias and he has delivered a great trip and a wonderful experience each time. There are many places around the globe we could have chosen for our annual international motorcycle tour but chose to visit Patagonia because of the our previous experience with Mathias and the opportunity to tour the Andes. We all left Argentina feeling we had definitely made the right choice. What are you waiting for, give them a call, you won’t regret it! Desert, Water, Wine Tour, March 2009
After researching holiday options on the internet I came across Horizonte Tours based in Salta, Argentina. What they offered seemed to fit the bill perfectly so at the end of November John, Colin and I set off on our trip. In Salta in the north of the country we met up with Mathias the owner of Horizonte Tours and our guide for the next 8 days. I have to say that this tour has been one of the highlights of my life – I will never forget it. It took us to a part of the world that is not on the main tourist route, and we visited places that not even most tourists to Argentina would go to. Moreover the organisation of the trip was faultless – everything ran with Teutonic efficiency, the hotels, were superb and having Mathias, a qualified geologist, as a guide was marvellous. He does have a great sense of humour – yes I know he is German – but he was also very helpful and informative and his local knowledge, in all aspects Argentinean – rocks, culture and food to name but three – proved invaluable. I would have no hesitation recommending this tour to anyone who likes adventures and holidays out of the ordinary. You will also eat the best steaks in the world. What a place! Valleys & Puna Tour, November 2007
Our own personal tour took place over the Christmas period 2006/7 and we travelled on a 12 day trip from Salta to Tucuman, the Calchaquí Valleys and the Puna desert of Jujuy. Both Phil and I had the time of our lives with Matt and Louis. The continuous banter was great fun which was the icing on the cake for us. We found Northern Argentina a fascinating and wonderful experience with the local people being very accommodating. The riding was excellent with a great variation in terrain and scenery and Matt knowledge of the areas we visited was exceptional also he has a great palette for wine which we were grateful for!! If anyone wants to speak to me Matt has my details. Valleys & Puna Tour, December 2006
It’s really hard to synthesize such a strong experience in a few words. A perfect cocktail of driving, road, offroad, adventure, confort, food, wine, landscapes, people, culture, surprises and what else you can imagine. Every day you turn on your bike, you already know that is going to be completely different by the previous and full of things you’ve never seen in your life and never tought to find in Argentina. Mathias, thanks to his experience and hard work, will not just drive you around beautiful roads where you be able to enjoy every kind of driving, but he will drive you into the people and they’re culture,to understand how they live and think. We left for a four-day tour and finish with an eigth-day tour!Every day you just want some more. Higly raccomended the long tours, there is so much to see! I’ll be back for sure!” Valleys & Puna Tour, November 2006
Having never been to South America, we spent much time considering what tour company we could trust. We wanted a company that could provide an experienced guide, well maintained bikes, and an itinerary that would take us to places that we might not otherwise see. Horzonte Tours provided all three; every part of the trip was well thought out and all of our expectations were exceeded. In short, we had a trip of a lifetime and cannot wait to get back for our next adventure. Valleys & Puna Tour, March 2006
In Febuary 2006 I had the great experience of riding a motorcycle from Bariloche to Salta, 3000 KM, over a 12 day period. It was the greatest experience of my life. Horizonte Tours did an unbeliuevable job of setting a course, taking care of accomadations and providing a 1st class bike with full support. Throughout the ride I was greeted to the Andes to the west and the lakes, the deserts, the wineries, the volcanoes and the precious little villages of Argentina to the east. The riding was challenging anf fullfilling. There were nice curvy paved mountain roads, small dirt trails running next to small livers and lakes, and gravel roads to challenge the most experienced biker. All meals were delicious and there was nothing like the taste of a cold Quilmes after a long day riding. The only bad thing that happened was when I had to step of my 65o Trans Alp in Salta, bid it a farewell, and return to normal life. Desert, Water, Wine Tour, January 2006
I have been on many motorcycle tours prior to and a few after my 17 day trip with Horizonte Tours in 2005 and I have to say that my trip to Argentina and Bolivia ranks at the top. The staff at Horizonte did an excellent job with planning and generally making the trip an adventure of a lifetime. The Argentina and Bolivian landscapes were awesome, the roads were very manageable for an intermediate off-road rider like me. We were able to really experience the unique culture of the region and got a great sampling of the various local cuisine and lodging. Our tour guide went out of his way to make sure everything went absolutely smooth and I was very impressed with the overall attention to detail. I would highly recommend a tour with Horizonte-Tours and its highly likely that I will do anther trip with them in the future. Bolivia, May 2005
